Voyageurs Expeditionary School administers the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test in the fall and spring of each school year. MAP is a computer adaptive test, which means every student gets a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions. When finished, students receive a score – a number – called a RIT score. This score represents a student’s achievement level at a given moment in the school year, when the test is given. At Voyageurs Expeditionary School, we use these scores to analyze students’ academic growth. Most students take less than an hour to complete a MAP test. However, it is not a timed test, and students are given as much time as they need to complete it. Testing data is used to help teachers personalize lessons and interventions for students. The math MAP is administered in grades 6-11. The science MAP is administered in grades 8 and 10. The reading MAP is administered in grades 6-11.

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) are state tests in reading, mathematics, and science that are used to meet federal and state legislative requirements. The tests are administered every year to measure student performance relative to the Minnesota Academic Standards that specify what students in a particular grade should know and be able to do. The reading MCA is administered in grades 6-8 and 10. The math MCA is administered in grades 6-8 and 11. The science MCA is administered in grades 8 and 10. MCA testing occurs in the spring. Voyageurs Expeditionary School receives individual student reports during the summer and provides this information to families during fall conferences.
